THE ALLIES FOR AUTISM FOUNDATION
Allies for Autism Foundation is a Canadian charitable granting foundation located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We operate with 100% volunteer support. We do not receive money from government sources and rely on fund raising events and private and corporate donations to conduct our operations.
We support individuals and families with members on the Autism spectrum indirectly by funding autism treatment organizations for "opportunities" that have the ability to enhance the experience of individuals in their care. In most circumstances, these projects would not normally be covered under their regular operating budgets.

Our History

Allies for Autism Foundation was formed in 1999 by four Calgary families who had children on the autism spectrum. This small group of individuals wanted to give something back to the autism community for the great support that they had received as part of their autism journey. They also wanted to foster increased cooperation and collaboration among the autism service providers in Calgary, to bring the autism community together and to raise awareness about autism in the community at large.
Each year, the foundation organizes a family walk and run held on the 3rd Sunday in September. Since the first run in 1999, this event has raised more than $600,000 and has provided grants in excess of $500,000 to Calgary based autism service organizations. In addition, this event brings many of the autism agencies together to share treatment options and successes with the public and each other.
In conjunction with our 2011 walk and run, we held our first weekend resource fair in collaboration with the Autism Community Network and we hope that this "Autism Weekend" will continue as a public awareness event in the future.
